Forklift Training Is a Legal Requirement for Employers
Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), employers are legally required to ensure that all forklift operators are adequately trained before operating any lift truck. Failure to comply can result in HSE enforcement action, significant fines, and personal liability for directors and managers in the event of a workplace accident.
An in-house or company-only licence does not satisfy this requirement – operators must hold an externally accredited certificate from a recognised body such as RTITB or NPORS.
